A great place to mix business with pleasure at the golden triangle of Kuala Lumpur . Come to Naab for your next conference or board meeting, and experience the pleasures of one of the most luxurious kind in Malaysia .

Naab is the biggest Iranian dining center in Malaysia and south east Asia. With nature as the concept of the ambiance, it is a paradise of Fine Iranian Cuisine. Nothing beats the carefree experience of dining & alfresco in the heart of the capital city of Malaysia .

The Design of Naab Business & Dining Center was inspired by mud and straw textures of Yazd architecture adorned with blue tiles, an outstanding feature of Iranian and central Asian architecture. Each floor is highlighted by an attractive turquoise blue water fountain. Water symbolises the source of life and purity while the blue colour is always associated with a heavenly realm.

The earthly elements of water, mud, straw along with the timber beams on the ceilings create an over all warm ambiance that connects to mother earth.

Here’s where GetActive comes in. It is a gym alright but there are no memberships.

To work out, you have to make an appointment with a personal trainer, who will supervise and guide you through a private session where you have the entire gym all to yourself. Otherwise, you can request an outcall where the trainer will see to your workout at home or at your condominium’s gym.

With this arrangement, your trainer can easily tailor a fitness regime to suite your needs – whether it is to loose weight, buff up, prepare for an upcoming marathon, rehabilitate from an injury or simply to get that six pack to make your ex jealous.

The trainers at GetActive are qualified under the American Council of Exercise, and as such, they are equipped to train anyone from 14 to 80 years old. There is also a certified dietician on staff who is able to provide nutritional advice and counselling. Yes, they are that serious about health and fitness.

Unlike spas, which you probably save for that occasional indulgence, Siam Body Works is the kind of treat you could afford to get your tired body worked on every other week. Why wouldn’t you when you can get a good hour of traditional Thai massage for only RM68?

Siam Body Works has been around for four years. During which, it has expanded from its initial outlet at Ampwalk to include two others in Northpoint Mid Valley City and Menara Hap Seng. That does say something about the quality of service here: you can’t possible sustain that long and still expand if not for a loyal customer base, can you?

Siam Body Works offers a variety of Thai treatments ranging from traditional and herbal massages to aromatherapy and foot reflexology. Surprisingly, it also has a Golfers and Sports Massage.

Open time: Mon – Sun 10am-10pm
Address : Embassy Row, Ampang ; The Plaza, Northpoint Mid Valley City; The Podium, Menara Hap Seng
It really is small, as in four-room-kind of small, and its reception lobby is an exercise in minimalism. But the limited décor that it has is rich in details, evident from the Damask-inspired wallpaper. All four rooms are individually designed but the Indian room looks the best, which features red walls, a Jacuzzi tub and beautiful Indian fittings.

I was so pleased to find that S Spa offers the Hawaiian Lomi-Lomi since not many spas in KL offer this ‘loving touch’ massage (it’s more innocent than it sounds, seriously) known for its long, sweeping full body strokes. But I opted for the ‘Raindrop Technique & Vitaflex’ massage simply because it sounded so foreign and new to me.

S Spa may be a cute little outlet but its menu is extensive, ranging from massages to facials, body scrubs to hand and foot treatments. The spa intends to keep the treatments as natural as possible and so the manicures and pedicures do not come with any nail colouring. Before each treatment, you will be asked a lengthy series of questions evolving around your work and lifestyle habits. Tatiana explained that even though it has nothing to do with the massage that you choose, it is still beneficial to help you have a conversation with yourself and put your daily life into perspective.

Open time: Wed-Mon,11am-8pm
Address : 7-3 Jalan Solaris, Solaris Mont Kiara, KL
Tel : 03 6203 0434

Escentials Urban Retreat presents itself as the most exclusive spa in Starhill Gallery’s Pamper Zone. Designed in the theme of a forest, the spa does look classy, luxurious and inviting. The entire space is decked out in natural wood and stone materials while the walls and ceiling are padded with plush floral motifs. We even spotted a few of the designer Wishbone chairs. More interestingly, the massive screen of interwoven ‘branches’ has created sort of a secluded retreat away from the public space.

The spa managed to create a favourable impression even prior to my visit. A day before my appointment, I received a reminder call from the staff. That was a much appreciated gesture. On the day, I arrived sweating profusely and gasping for air after making a dash from KLCC to Starhill Gallery on foot within 15 minutes. Yet, the staff allowed me time to catch my breath even though it was rather late and I was their last session for the day.

Having taken a short survey of me about my incredibly tensed upper shoulders (due to the long hours in front of the computer), my masseuse paid more attention to that area. It was such a relief. She maintained her firm pressure throughout the 75-minute Decleor Aromassage (RM288), which is the spa’s signature, combining aromatherapy massage and Shiatsu. My treatment room comes with an ensuite rain shower with seating area, which was cosy. A quick post-treatment drink later, I walked back out into the city feeling so much better than when I first stepped into the spa. Ah, if only I could end my weekdays like this.

I blushed under the gaze of four pairs of eyes staring at me as their owners tried to discern the condition of my skin; this was to ensure that the products used were compatible with my skin type and would not cause an adverse reaction. Luckily, my skin is not sensitive, as the Brightening Rejuvenating Skincare Facial that I was going to go through is not suitable for those with sensitive skin.

Eve Spa in Solaris uses only Thalgo products, whose ingredients include marine algae and other rich sea sources. This clearly influenced the decor of the spa, with blue, green and aquamarine designs throughout the spa and deck chairs and sea shells added to give a beachy feel.

After removing my make-up, my therapist cleansed, steamed and cleared my skin before beginning the brightening process with the Exfoliating Lotion, followed by the Unizone® Colour Corrector, which was applied to areas on my face which had pigmentation, and left for awhile to be thoroughly absorbed.

Then five pieces of Filmogel, a polysaccharide film with Provitamin C is layered onto my skin before it is dissolved in Clearing Fluid giving it a mask like consistency. This is left on for a few minutes and is followed by a five minute massage with the Melt-in Smoothing Brightening Cream. The Revealing Mask is then applied for 15 minutes. The treatment ends with the Smoothing Brightening Fluid which boosts collagen giving skin more suppleness. The whole treatment took just over one and a half hours.

After the treatment, my freckles were visibly lighter and pigmentation around my chin and my forehead was more even. My skin, though slightly red from the extraction and a little raw from the exfoliation felt soft and looked a whole lot younger.

Following a massive opening fanfare that involved the appearance of its co-founder Edison Chen, Juice has opened its first Southeast Asian store in Kuala Lumpur. Located in Bangsar, the Juice KL logo is significantly different from its parent company, JUICE Hong Kong, whereby the KL version is emboldened with our Malaysian flag colours, namely red and blue. However, let us make it clear that this boutique has nothing to do with a magazine of the same name that we have here in KL.

Carrying cult brands such as the house-line CLOT apparel, limited edition Nike, adidas, OriginalFake, Medicom Toys, Kuumba and HeadPorter, there’s no doubt that this boutique appeals to those with a flair for street couture. As you enter the store, you’ll notice its futuristic ambience that is enhanced by LED lighting effects. It has the look and feel of a chic, modern lounge, really. The unconventional use of wood, steel, glass and corian is designed to incite curiosity; so even if you are not intending to buy anything, you’ll at least step in to have a look.

The opening of this branch will certainly attract those that fancy Hong Kong urban gear, footwear, toys and accessories that interlink the worlds of music, design, retail and fashion. The store and its clothes, with an underlying hint of hip hop culture, are definitely catering to the young. All we can say is, if you fancy limited edition fashion fads and labels, get ready to empty your wallets.

Talk about making a fashion statement – the luxury rock ’n’ roll-inspired brand’s apparel and accessories are so over the top and flashy. Besides requiring shades to protect your eyes from the clashing of loud and even garish colours seen on the clothes and accessories, most items are emblazoned with prints like crosses, hell’s fire, skulls and other counter-culture designs. The rebel in you, however, will also be delighted that the apparel and accessories are decorated with studs, sequins, and more. Overall the designs will even make, say, Harley Davidson bikers blush. Ed Hardy – definitely not for the faint-hearted, and if you intend to draw pop-culture references like the gritty ‘Midnight Cowboy’, forget it. It’s less dirt-road rebellion but with rock ’n’ roll swagger.

The brand’s range of jeans (RM600 onwards), especially the loose-fit ones, and the tees (RM270 onwards), are particularly popular. If you’d like to know, many tabloids have published pictures of Madonna moving around on the streets dressed in Ed Hardy tees.

The Ed Hardy store, unfortunately, does not offer alteration or any other sorts of services. Perhaps this is because customers like you prefer to wear items in your own inimitable ways. Still, I reckon having the option to use alteration services would be ideal. And why not, especially since you’re paying top prices for the goods. Tan Hee Hui

You won’t be getting tea and sympathy from anyone here, just clothes (and no accessories). Eighty per cent of the stocks are sourced from Bangkok, and the remaining locally-made ones are designed by Naomi Lim, the store owner.

Although this rather bare store has limited items, it makes the shopping experience easier and decision making faster. Only three pieces are available for each simple, casual and easy-to-match design, and one piece for each dress as well as other complicated designs. Overall, expect to find baby doll tops, cocktail dresses, playful looking skirts, avant-garde jackets which remind me of Vivienne Westwood creations. Some clothes are designed in line with current trends and some are not. The cheapest items: casual, floral-print cotton tops (RM59), easy to mix and match. By and large, the store offers competitive pricing when compared to other nearby boutiques.

The store has recently introduced work shirts (RM195) designed by Sean, an indie designer from Bangkok. Made from cotton, polyester and cotton spandex, and with an emphasis on collar construction workmanship, the work shirts look a little avant-garde, with a hint of Victorian influence, and are not your usual staid office wear. Tea & Sympathy has also received orders via its blog (style-taketwo.blogspot.com), from customers from Singapore, Jakarta and London. Local customers, meanwhile, can easily access the physical store and, among other things, enjoy free hemming services and request custom-made outfits (with three free trial fittings), only during off-peak periods between March and August. Custom-made clothes cost RM129 onwards.

Open time: Open Mon-Sat, 12noon-9pm; Sun, 12noon-7pm.
Address : Tea & Sympathy, 7, 2nd Floor, Jalan Telawi 2, Bangsar Baru
Tel : 03 2283 6671
